If you’ve recently upgraded to Windows 10 and have a PS/2 style keyboard, you may have found that the keyboard no longer works?

If you’re not sure what a PS/2 keyboard is, it has a purple connector like the one shown below:

It appears that Windows 10 doesn’t enable the PS/2 port on your computer and you have to tell it to switch it back on.

You can do this in the registry.

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt

The Start key should be changed from 3 to 1

Of course, you’ll need to borrow a USB keyboard in order to do this, or use the on-screen keyboard with the mouse.
