If you’ve tried to install SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server 2008, you’ll have found that they’re not compatible.
However – there is a hotfix from Microsoft which fixes this:
Install this before installing SQL and you should be fine! Don’t forget to install SQL SP2 too once SQL is installed for compatibility.
